The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "New Force in Motion" series will present two programmes in August and September. The series features local choreographers and showcases local strength in dance.
The first programme to be staged in August is Biuguk's "keep in touch". Choreographed by Max Lee, Bruce Wong and Lai Tak-wai, the show is a mixture of simple aesthetics, contemporary dance and light and shadow art. Dance steps on stage "keep in touch" with the audience and are signs of life.
Biuguk, the name for security guards in ancient China, was initiated by four Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts graduates in 2007. While its productions have been based mostly on modern dance and musicals, the group aims for innovation and fusion by incorporating different media on stage. "Little Men's Blue", its first production in 2004 and which re-ran in 2007, was well-received by audiences and critics. In 2008, the troupe was invited by the E-side Dance Company to participate in a short production called "before the last second". In 2009, it was invited by the Hong Kong Dance Alliance to create a new work, "Venusian, oh Venusian!".
In September, the series will stage Neo Dance HK's "Galatea"/"Passenger". Choreographed by Justyne Li and Wong Tan-ki, "Galatea" unveils the mysteries of a stone sculpture in the left brain, while "Passenger" reflects the excitement behind monotonous city life in the right brain. The double bill reveals the circle of creation that is completed between the left and right brains.
Neo Dance HK was founded in 2006 by Justyne Li and Wong Tan-ki, who aim to put on a wide variety of high quality productions. They also work hard on sound mixing and dance videos. Li and Wong's joint works include "Studio Storm", "Catch Mui if you can", "Angel #666 vs Demon #999", and "A Serpent Eating Its Own Tail".
