Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 573 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 63 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7 p.m. today (July 20) and a total of 202 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 329 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 244 for other traffic offences.  

     Forty-two pedestrians and 166 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,449 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to June this year.

     Of them, 50.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
