Twenty-one outstanding participants of the "Hang Seng Bank ¡V Help the Police Fight Crime Competition 2010" had won the chance to visit Canada as fight crime ambassadors of Hong Kong in August.

The young ambassadors along with other winners today (July 14) received their awards and scholarships from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, and the General Manager and Head of Treasury and Investment of Hang Seng Bank, Mr Andrew Fung, at a prize presentation ceremony at the Police Headquarters.

Organised biennially by the Police with sponsorship from Hang Seng Bank, this year's competition adopted the theme of "Combating Youth Drug Abuse and Cyber Crime" with a slogan "Don't fall into the crime traps", which attracted a record number of more than 140 000 participants. Contestants had to go through three phases of evaluation comprising a combination of web game, quiz, report on newspaper article, essay writing, project presentation, aptitude test and interview.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang commended the awardees for their outstanding performance and wished them a fruitful visit to Canada. He hoped they would fully perform the responsibilities of a fight crime ambassador and set a good example to their peers in the fight against crime.

Mr Fung said: "Hang Seng Bank is pleased to have sponsored this meaningful competition for the ninth consecutive time as part of its commitment to nurturing positive values in young people. We believe this initiative helps raise awareness about youth crime and contributes to social development in Hong Kong."

He called on the winners to keep helping the Police fight criminal activity and disseminate anti-crime messages.

Winners from the secondary school, post secondary school and non-government organization (youth service and uniformed group) categories will visit Canada from August 19 to 26 as fight crime ambassadors. They will also visit various Police formations with winners of the primary school category.
