A man was sentenced to two weeks' imprisonment in the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (July 7) for assaulting a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) officer occasioning actual bodily harm and for two charges of common assault.

The man had refused to co-operate and assaulted the FEHD officer when the officer took prosecution action against a littering offence in Ho Pui Street, Tsuen Wan, on March 7 this year.

In addition, the man was fined $2,500 for littering of a cigarette butt in a public place and failing to provide personal particulars and proof of identity for inspection.

"Use of violence against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries legal consequences," a department spokesman said.

He urged the public to co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties.
