The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The United Christian Hospital (UCH) organised a "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training for Community 2010" event today (June 26). Over 3,600 participants attended and learnt CPR skills for providing immediate assistance to cardiac arrest patients in emergencies.

The "CPR Training for Community 2010" was officiated by the Chairman of the Hospital Authority, Mr Anthony Wu; the President of The Rotary Club of Kwun Tong, Mr Marthy Li; the Chairman of the Hospital Governing Committee of UCH, Professor Tam Sheung-wai; and the Hospital Chief Executive of UCH, Dr Joseph Lui.

UCH has promulgated CPR training in the community actively in recent years. This is the second year that UCH has jointly organised CPR mass training with government departments and community organisations. The event aims to disseminate CPR skills among lay people in the community so as to save more patients suffering from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Mr Anthony Wu said, "We hope more people from the community learn how to do CPR in order to help save more lives in need."

Dr Joseph Lui added, "Studies show that if by-stander CPR is provided efficiently and effectively, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims' chance of survival is greatly increased."

The participants attending the CPR training today include students, teachers, parents, representatives from various organisations and the community. A total of over 3,600 people in three groups were trained. All participants are tested after the training to ensure their skills meet the proper standards.
