Appointments to Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation

     The Government today (June 25) announced the appointment of one new board member and the re-appointment of six incumbent board members to the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC).

     Mr David Fong Man-hung is appointed as a new member of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1, 2010.

     Dr John Chai Yat-chiu, Dr Eliza Chan Ching-har, Mr Humphrey Choi, Mr Tony Choi Siu-chow, Mr Tom Tang Chung-yen and Mr Wong Ming-yam are re-appointed as board members of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1, 2010.

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, said, "The board of directors of the corporation is well served by members with rich experience and professional expertise in the fulfillment of the corporation's public mission. I am grateful for their contributions and am confident that with their leadership, the corporation will enhance Hong Kong's position as a regional centre for innovation and technology."

     The term of an incumbent member, Mr Locky Chu Kwan-lam, will expire on June 30, 2010.

     "The board has benefitted from Mr Chu's wise counsel and I would like to extend my personal appreciation and thanks for his valuable contributions over the years," Mrs Lau said.

     The HKSTPC, which began operations on May 7, 2001, manages the Science Park, three industrial estates and the InnoCentre and supports innovation and technology development in Hong Kong. It provides a comprehensive range of services to cater for the needs of industry at various stages, from nurturing technology start-ups through an incubation programme, providing premises and services in the Science Park for applied research and development activities, and creating and sustaining a design cluster at the InnoCentre, to providing developed land in the industrial estates for production.

     Together with an official member appointed on an ex-officio basis, the corporation's board of directors comprises 16 members, including the chairman. The membership of the full board of directors is as follows:
