Update on cluster of human Metapneumovirus cases in mentally handicapped ward in Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding some patients in a mixed ward for the mentally handicapped in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) who had recently been confirmed with human Metapneumoviral infection, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (June 18):

     One more female patient (aged 20) in the ward has presented with fever and coughing symptoms.  Appropriate tests were arranged and the results are pending.  The patient is being treated under isolation and in stable condition.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restriction on visits to and discharge from the ward has been imposed.  Infection control measures in the ward concerned have been stepped up.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
