Seven employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 11) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $157,000 on behalf of 17 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, one defendant, G & H Holdings Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $17,554.67, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other six defendants, namely Top Union Engineering Limited; Li Chi Hung trading as Yau Lee Bakery Company; Express-Mail Transportation International Company Limited; Humayun, Jalal trading as Mirs International And Saima-Jalal formerly trading as Mirs International; Mok Chi Yuen and Liu Sui Ching trading as Fortune Fashion Knitting Factory; Wu Kut Lam and Chiu Man Yu, Angel trading as Tai Fat Trading Company, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,159.02, $43,890, $27,842.67, $11,812.5, $7,245 and $5,015.96, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable respectively.

     The Adjudicator also ordered Express-Mail Transportation International Company Limited to pay the MPFA the sum of $5,000 being a financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $159, $186, $209, $136, $169, $149 and $110 as the costs in respect of the claims.
