The Office of the Chief Executive reached an initial consensus with the Office of Legislative Council member Audrey Eu today (June 2) on the arrangement for the live televised debate on the constitutional reform package.
The debate aims to increase public understanding of the arguments for and against the package and judge for themselves.
Details of the initial consensus are as follows:
Date: June 17, 2010 (Thursday)
Time: 6.35pm to 7.30pm
Venue: Conference Hall, Central Government Offices New Annexe
Producer: Radio Television Hong Kong
Moderator: Mr Ng Ming-lam
The two sides have agreed that the debate should be conducted in an orderly and dignified manner and that there will be no on-site audience; that the debate will be conducted mainly in Cantonese while part of it will be conducted in English; and that questions about the constitutional reform package will be collected from the public to be raised at the two participants.
"I hope that the debate will increase public understanding of the 2012 constitutional reform package, which will lay a solid foundation for universal suffrage for the Chief Executive election in 2017 and the Legislative Council election in 2020," the Chief Executive said.
Details of the arrangement are still being discussed by the two sides.
