The higher education delegation led by the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, today (May 20) continued their visit to Jakarta, the last leg of their tour to Malaysia and Indonesia to promote Hong Kong's education services.
Mr Suen called on the Indonesian Minister of National Education, Prof Dr Ir H Mohammed Nuh, this morning to brief him on the latest initiatives to promote Hong Kong as a regional education hub.
He told the minister how Hong Kong has been striving to further internationalise and diversify the higher education sector.
"Hong Kong aspires to be an education hub to nurture students for the region. We welcome more quality international students, including those from Indonesia, to study in Hong Kong so that they can benefit from the East-meets-West exposure and the experience of making connections with Mainland China," Mr Suen said.
In the afternoon, Mr Suen visited the University of Indonesia, a world-class research university founded in 1849. He met the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr Ir Muhammad Anis M Met, and updated him on the key features of the newly implemented New Academic Structure and the international recognition of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination.
Looking forward to more opportunities for student exchanges between the two places, Mr Suen said: ˇ§We will continue to work with our higher education institutions to step up exchanges and promotion efforts in Asian countries.ˇ¨
Mr Suen also visited a local vocational school, SMKN 27 Jakarta, to gain an understanding of its diverse vocational training courses and experience the catering service provided by students.
He also took the opportunity to call on the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Ms Zhang Qiyue.
Mr Suen and members of the delegation will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (May 21).
