Voter registration for 2010 to end on May 17
********************************************

Eligible persons who have not yet registered as electors are reminded to submit their applications by May 17, a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (May 8).

Hong Kong permanent residents holding an identity document who are aged 18 or above and are ordinarily residing in Hong Kong are eligible to be registered as electors.

According to the electoral law, newly registered electors can vote in future Legislative Council and District Council elections only after the publication of the final registers of electors in July. They cannot vote in the Legislative Council by-election in May this year.

"It is not necessary for registered electors to register again, but they are reminded to report any change in address or other registration particulars to the REO by June 29," the spokesman said.

Electors are encouraged to provide or update their email addresses, which will be provided to the candidates concerned for sending election advertisements.

Forms for voter registration and report of change in registration particulars can be downloaded from the voter registration website (www.voterregistration.gov.hk).  They are also available from the REO, the Public Enquiry Service Centres of the District Offices and management offices of public housing estates.

Completed forms can be sent by mail to the REO at 10/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, or by fax to 2891 1180.

"Applicants should call the hotline on 2891 1001, if they do not receive any reply from the REO within 14 days after their submission of applications," the spokesman said.
