Special traffic arrangements for public procession on Hong Kong Island

     Police will implement special traffic arrangements on May 1 (Saturday) to facilitate a public procession to be held from Victoria Park in Causeway Bay at 2.30pm to Central Government Offices in Central district.

(A) Road closure

The following roads will be closed from 2.30pm and as necessary:

1. Gloucester Road U-turn slip road between southbound and northbound Gloucester Road;
2. Jardine's Bazaar;  
3. Tang Lung Street; and
4. Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.

The following roads will be closed from 2.45pm and as necessary:

1. A section of southbound Gloucester Road between Victoria Park Road Flyover and Causeway Road if necessary;
2. Sugar Street;
3. Irving Street except for the Regal Hong Kong Hotel;
4. A section of westbound Yee Wo Street between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
5. A section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
6. Kai Chiu Road;
7. A section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
8. A section of westbound Hennessy Road between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road; and
9. The leftmost lane of westbound Hennessy Road west of Lee Garden Road, westbound Queensway, and westbound Queen's Road Central will be intermittently closed.

(B) Traffic Diversion

Traffic along the following roads will be diverted from 2.30pm onwards and as necessary:

1. Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road will be prohibited from turning right onto northbound Gloucester Road outside Victoria Park;
2. Traffic along northbound Pennington Street will be prohibited from turning left onto Jardine's Bazaar;
3. Traffic along westbound Russell Street will be prohibited from turning right onto northbound Canal Road East and diverted to turn left onto southbound Canal Road East; and
4. Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road will be prohibited from turning left onto Canal Road East.

Traffic along the following roads will be diverted from 2.45pm onwards and as necessary:

1. Traffic along southbound Victoria Park Road Flyover will be diverted to turn right onto westbound Gloucester Road if necessary;
2. Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road heading for Causeway Road will be diverted to southbound Tai Hang Road Flyover if necessary;
3. Traffic along eastbound Great George Street will be diverted to turn left onto northbound Gloucester Road except for traffic heading towards southbound Tai Hang Road Flyover;
4. Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street will be prohibited from turning left onto Sugar Street;
5. Traffic along Irving Street will be diverted to turn right onto northbound Pennington Street;
6. Traffic along northbound Pennington Street will be diverted to turn right onto eastbound Yee Wo Street;
7. Traffic along Yun Ping Road will be diverted to turn left onto Pak Sha Road or Lan Fong Road; and
8. Traffic along westbound Causeway Road will be prohibited from turning right onto Irving Street except for Regal Hong Kong Hotel and must keep left onto westbound Leighton Road.

(C) Suspension of bus stops

     All bus stops along southbound Gloucester Road, Irving Street, westbound Yee Wo Street, westbound Hennessy Road, westbound Queensway and Queen's Road Central will be intermittently suspended by phases from 2.45pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic has resumed normal.

(D) Green minibus diversion

     GMB Route 40 will be converted into a circular route and diverted via eastbound Leighton Road, Hysan Avenue, Hoi Ping Road, westbound Leighton Road and southbound Morrison Hill Road from about 2.30pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic has resumed normal.

(E) Suspension of Public Light Bus (PLB) and Green Minibus (GMB) Stands

     The PLB stand on Sugar Street and the GMB stand on Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended from about 2.30pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic has resumed normal.

(F) Restriction on access to / exit from car parks

     All car parks along westbound Hennessy Road, westbound Queensway, and westbound Queen's Road Central east of Ice House Street may be closed at short notice if necessary. In addition, vehicles in car parks along the procession routes may not be permitted to leave or access to the car parks during the road closure period until the roads are re-opened to traffic.

     Members of the Public are advised to use public transport service and avoid driving to the affected areas.

     Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and take heed of instructions of the Police at the scene.
