Photo-taking in show flats allowed in principle
***********************************************

In response to media enquiries on whether photo-taking would be allowed in show flats, a spokesman for the Transport and Housing Bureau today (April 26) said, after rounds of discussions with representatives of the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong (REDA), REDA had agreed to issue a circular to its members shortly, requiring them to allow visitors to take photos inside show flats of their new developments in principle.

The spokesman explained that an agreement was not reached earlier as REDA had expressed that some of their members had pointed out that the design of show flats belonged to the designers concerned, developers had to seek the designers' consent before allowing visitors to take photographs.

According to the newly reached arrangement, the REDA would state clearly in its circular that when photo-taking is not allowed inside a show flat under exceptional conditions, the developer would have to explain to visitors that it is due to the objection of the designer.

The spokesman envisaged that developers in future would make appropriate arrangements with designers before commissioning their services so that exceptional conditions would be avoided when the new arrangement comes into effect for some time.

"Following an earlier agreement to allow visitors to take measurements inside show flats, the Government and REDA discussed the issue of photo-taking inside show flats. Allowing photo-taking in show flats should be encouraged as it would enhance consumers' confidence.

"However, photographs are for reference only. Those who intend to buy a flat should read carefully all the information and details in sales brochures before making their informed decision," the spokesman said.
