Maestro Zimerman to give piano recitals in June
***********************************************

Polish master pianist Krystian Zimerman will revisit Hong Kong for two recitals in June.

The celebrated pianist made his long-awaited Hong Kong dˆmbut in 2006 in a highly anticipated recital that was widely acclaimed. Now in 2010, with the world celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the romantic composer Frˆmdˆmric Chopin, Zimerman is touring the world with an all-Chopin recital programme, paying tribute to his compatriot by including two of Chopin's large-scale solo works, "Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor" and "Sonata No.3 in B Minor", masterpieces of this genre.

Krystian Zimerman comes from a family with rich music-making traditions. At the age of seven, he started working with Andrzej Jasinski, a senior lecturer at the music conservatory in Katowice, Poland. The grand prix at the Chopin Competition of 1975 paved the way for his performances in concert halls worldwide.

In past years, Zimerman has repeatedly performed with leading musicians and conductors. He has received several international awards for his lifetime artistic achievements. His alma mater, the Katowice Music Academy, awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Arts, only the second in the institution's history. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious title of the Chevalier de la Lˆmgion d'honneur for his contributions to promoting French music and culture.

Piano Recital by Krystian Zimerman is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm, June 22 and 23 (Tuesday and Wednesday), at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $200, $360, $480 and $600 are now available at URBTIX outlets.
