The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) today (April 13) announced the following fatal case of human swine influenza (HSI) :
A bedridden 77-year-old male patient with a history of stroke attended the Accident and Emergency Department of QEH on March 21 due to cough and fever. He was admitted to the isolation ward. Positive result for HSI was confirmed on March 29 and antibiotics were prescribed. The patient stabilised and was transferred to Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital on April 1. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred back to QEH on April 12 requiring ventilation support. The patient passed away on the same day. The hospital would like to express condolences to the patient's family.
The case was reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and Centre for Health Protection.
