The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, has tonight (April 12) hosted a 'Thank You' dinner for sponsors supporting Hong Kong's participation in Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo).

So far, 27 companies have joined the sponsorship programme and contributed more than $38 million in cash and kind.

Mr Tang thanked the sponsors for their generous support, which will help add colours to Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo.

"On behalf of the Hong Kong Government, I would like to thank you for your support of our participation in the Shanghai World Expo," he said.

Mr Tang said as another major international event, Shanghai Expo has particular importance to the country, and Hong Kong.

He said Hong Kong would take the excellent opportunity to promote the city as a modern, vibrant and interconnected metropolis with quality city life.

Renowned singer Jacky Cheung was also appointed as "Expo 2010 Shanghai China, Hong Kong Ambassador" at the dinner.

Mr Cheung led a group of well-known singers including Eric Suen, Kay Tse, Hins Cheung, Keeva Mak and band Mr. to record the Cantonese version of the theme song for Hong Kong's participation in Expo.

The song was composed by Eric Suen, with the Cantonese lyrics penned by Chan Siu-kei.

A 30-second promotional video featuring the theme song was premiered at the dinner.

Performing at the dinner for guests were the Yat Po Singers, who will stage Hong Kong's first Expo cultural performance in Shanghai on May 8.

The group will perform "Rock Hard", an edgy musical theatre production that is among the 26 performing arts programmes to be staged during the six-month Expo period to showcase Hong Kong's talent and creativity.

Other Government officials attending tonight's dinner were the Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau; the Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam; the Acting Secretary for the Environment, Dr Kitty Poon; the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Ms Eva Cheng; the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism), Miss Yvonne Choi; the Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Joshua Law; the Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and  Lands), Mr Thomas Chow; the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Mak Chai-kwong; and the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport), Mr Francis Ho.
