     Following is the speech by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, at the dinner hosted by him to thank sponsors supporting Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo at Chancellor Room of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre tonight (April 12):

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

     Good evening.  I am delighted to join you this evening for the sponsor dinner.  On behalf of the Hong Kong Government, I would like to thank you for your support of our participation at the Shanghai World Expo.

     In another 18 days, the 2010 Shanghai Expo will be officially opened.  Apart from being the largest in Expo history, Shanghai Expo will be another major international event hosted by our country after the successful 2008 Beijing Olympics.  The Expo has particular importance to our country and to Hong Kong.

     We will take this opportunity to promote our city as a modern, vibrant and interconnected metropolis with quality city life.  Under the theme "Smart Card ‧ Smart City ‧ Smart Life", we will showcase our innovative approach to improving the efficiency and quality of life for every citizen, and how all the caring nuances become the building blocks of a sustainable city life.

     Ladies and gentlemen, your enthusiasm and support have added colour to Hong Kong's participation at the Expo.  Do visit the Hong Kong Pavilion and our exhibition at the Urban Best Practices Area, and join us at other promotional activities held throughout the six months.  Thank you again and see you at the Shanghai Expo.
