The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding a male severely mentally handicapped ward of Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) in which some patients had been confirmed with human Metapneumoviral infection, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (April 7):
Five more patients (aged from 44 to 70) and two female staff members in another male severely mentally handicapped ward had presented with fever and flu symptoms. Appropriate tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results of three of them are positive for human Metapneumovirus. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The two staff members have recovered.
Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward is imposed. Infection control measures of the ward have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
