Fatal case of human swine influenza in Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following announcement today (April 7) regarding a fatal case of human swine influenza (HSI):

     A 43-year-old female patient with good past health attended the Accident and Emergency Department of TMH on March 27 due to fever and cough.  Her condition was critical and required ventilation support.  The patient was transferred to Intensive Care Unit for treatment.  The test result for HSI was confirmed positive on the same day (March 27).  She was prescribed tamiflu and antibiotics.

     The patient's condition continued to deteriorate and succumbed today (April 7) at 1.58am.  The hospital would like to express condolences to the patient's family.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection.
