SLW speaks on Cathay Pacific labour dispute
*******************************************

The following is the transcript of the remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the Cathay Pacific Airways labour dispute at a media stand-up this (April 4) afternoon (English portion):

Reporter: What is the Labour Department doing to resolve the Cathay Pacific labour dispute ?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The Labour Department has been leaving no stone unturned in mediating in this dispute. We've been shuttling between both parties - the management and the union. In fact the differences have further narrowed. We will continue to lobby and do our very best to bring both sides back to the table for negotiation. And we hope that a breakthrough would be achieved before long. We are very concerned about the likely implications on the travelling public. We are very concerned about the effect on the community. So we will do all we can to bring this to a satisfactory conclusion as quickly as possible.
