The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding a male severely mentally handicapped ward of Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) in which some patients had been confirmed with human Metapneumoviral infection, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (April 3):
Two more patients (aged 20 and 35) in the ward had presented with fever symptoms. Appropriate tests had been arranged and the test results are positive to human Metapneumovirus. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.
Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward is imposed. Infection control measures of the ward have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
