Hong Kong Observatory open to public (with photos)
**************************************************

The Hong Kong Observatory was open to the public on March 27 and 28. Around 10,000 people of all ages visited the Observatory headquarters.

Every year in March, the Observatory organises an Open Day to celebrate the World Meteorological Day on March 23.  This year, the theme of the Open Day was "Braving the storm together for over a hundred years".  Through words, pictures and various exhibits, it introduced how the Observatory had evolved to cope with societal changes, protect the safety of the public with science and technology, and contribute towards the well-being of Hong Kong, its neighbouring areas and the international community.  Cutting-edge equipment was also exhibited.  The game booths and eco-tour also attracted crowds of visitors.

A visitor took the view that the Observatory staff were friendly and helpful, adding that the exhibits were well presented and the games were fun for everyone.

The Director of Hong Kong Observatory, Dr Lee Boon-ying, autographed for the new book "Directorˇ¦s Blog" during the open day.  Many people welcomed this opportunity and posted for a picture with him.

Apart from Observatory staff, more than sixty "Friends of the Observatory" members volunteered to man the open day and enjoyed a happy weekend with the visitors.
