Enhancing Hong Kong's innovative capabilities was the key to maintaining its competitiveness in the face of significant technological advances and globalisation, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Mr Andrew Lai, said today (March 28).
Speaking at the Art in the Park - ADAMAO Exhibition opening ceremony in Hong Kong Science Park, Mr Lai said that Hong Kong was recognised as one of the most innovative economies in the world.
Mr Lai said, "The Government's policy is to act as a facilitator. We will continue to provide the best soft and hard infrastructure to make Hong Kong an innovation and technology hub.
"Innovation is the vital spark of all change, improvement and progress. It is the central issue in economic prosperity. Innovation and the application of technology are the most effective ways to add value to products and services.
"With the joint effort of the Government, technology institutions, our universities, the industry and the community, Hong Kong is ready to scale new heights," he added.
"Art in the Park" is an initiative launched by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) to promote creativity with technology among the local community.
Mr Lai said, " 'Art in the Park' is an excellent opportunity to bring innovative ideas to the community and inspire the general public, demonstrating that technology, innovation, art and creativity are indeed inextricably interwoven."
To mark the opening, HKSTPC collaborated with Miss Ahn Pilyun, an internationally renowned artist from South Korea, to set up an exhibition of her masterpiece "ADAMAO".
Built as a tunnel with recycled materials and installed with audio devices and sensors to record visitors' thoughts, the concept of the exhibition "ADAMAO" was "Connecting People", which means the advancement of science and technology imbues one's mind with inspiration and in turn makes connection between people.
The exhibition begins today and runs until April 25.
