? ? The Fire Services Department (FSD) will hold an official funeral service with full honours for the late Senior Fireman, Mr Yeung Chun-kit, at the Universal Funeral Parlour, Hung Hom, Kowloon, on March 23 (Tuesday).
? ? A customary ceremony open to friends, relatives and Service members will first be held at 8.30am. This will be followed by an official ceremony starting at 9.30am.
? ? The Director of Fire Services, Mr Gregory Lo Chun-hung, representatives of various government departments and staff of the Fire Services will lay wreaths at the ceremony.
? ? The hearse will leave the Universal Funeral Parlour at about 10.15am after the official ceremony. A Service contingent will parade outside the funeral parlour to pay their last respects to the late senior fireman.
? The hearse will arrive at Lai Cheong Factory Building, 479 Castle Peak Road, Cheung Sha Wan, at about 10.25am. An on-site ceremony will be held outside the building.
? ? The hearse will then proceed to Lai Chi Kok Fire Station at 4 Po Lun Street, Lai Chi Kok. A Service contingent will parade in the forecourt of the fire station to pay a last tribute to the late Mr Yeung.
? ? The cortege will then leave for Gallant Garden at Wo Hop Shek Cemetery for the burial service.
? ? The following is a brief biography of the late Mr Yeung Chun-kit:
? ? The late Senior Fireman Yeung Chun-kit was born on February 9, 1963. He received his education in Hong Kong. Senior Fireman Yeung joined the Fire Services Department in October 1984 as a fireman. He was awarded the Fire Services Department Long Services Medal in 2002. With his continuous excellent performance, he was promoted to Senior Fireman on May 17, 2005, and was posted to Lai Chi Kok Fire Station in July 2007.
Throughout his 25 years of service in the Department, his positive attitude and whole-hearted devotion to duty were well demonstrated. With his professional competence and exemplary service, his performance was consistently graded "Very Effective" by his superiors over the years. His strong commitment to serve, his professional ability and outstanding leadership were amply displayed at various incidents as he led his teams on various fire fighting and rescue missions in a most effective and efficient manner. In 2008, he was awarded a "Favourable Entry" in recognition of his exemplary performance in the successful rescue of a woman in a "threatening to jump" case. His enthusiasm, openness and considerate character also earned him a very good reputation among his colleagues.
? ? His gallantry and selflessness were clearly demonstrated in the No.4 Alarm fire at Lai Cheong Factory Building, 479 Castle Peak Road, Cheung Sha Wan, on March 8, 2010. It is a great misfortune that he lost his life in the course of the fire-fighting operation. His tragic death is a great loss not only to the Hong Kong Fire Services, but also to the community. His bravery and professionalism will no doubt stay in the minds of the people of Hong Kong forever.
