The Chief Executive has re-appointed Mrs Diana Chan Tong Chee-ching as the Managing Director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) for a period of three years starting from July 1, 2010.
"Mrs Chan has performed a key role in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System during her tenure as the Managing Director since 2004. We are confident that with her profound experience in the MPF System, she will continue to lead the MPFA in achieving its goals and objectives in the future," a spokesman for the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau said today (March 12).
In addition, the Financial Secretary has appointed Mr Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung as a non-executive director of the MPFA for a term of two years from March 17, 2010.
"Mr Yuen has wide experience and good standing in the legal profession and we look forward to his contribution to the work of the MPFA.
"We would also like to thank the outgoing non-executive director, Mr Edward Chan King-sang, for his invaluable advice and enormous contributions to the work of the MPFA since 2004," the spokesman said.
The MPFA is a statutory body established in September 1998 under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance to regulate and supervise the MPF System, which is a vital part of the three-pillar approach to retirement support in Hong Kong. It is also the Registrar of Occupational Retirement Schemes, which regulates occupational retirement schemes established by employers on a voluntary basis.
As at the end of December 2009, the MPF System covered more than 2.4 million scheme members and the total net asset value of all MPF approved constituent funds amounted to more than $308 billion.
