At the invitation of the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, five Legislative Council (LegCo) members joined him on a visit to the Labour Department's Kowloon West Job Centre and Youth Employment Start (Y.E.S.) Mong Kok Centre today (March 1) to get a first-hand understanding of the employment services offered to job-seekers and youths.

The five LegCo members were the Chairman of LegCo's Manpower Panel, Ms Li Fung-ying; members Mr Lee Cheuk-yan, Mr Frederick Fung and Mr Wong Kwok-hing, as well as Ms Cyd Ho.

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Labour, Mrs Cherry Tse, Mr Cheung and the Legco members met recruiting employers at a mini-job fair being held at the job centre and talked to the trainees of youth programmes at Y.E.S.

Mr Cheung exchanged views with the Legco members on the department's employment services and took the opportunity to give young job-seekers at Y.E.S. a pat on the back.

The Labour Department operates 12 Job Centres at various convenient locations across the territory to provide free and easy-to-use employment services for job-seekers and employers. The centres also offer special employment programmes to job-seekers who need more intensive employment services or have special difficulties in finding jobs.

Y.E.S. is a one-stop platform for young people aged between 15 and 29 to explore their employment potential and enhance employability. The Mong Kok Centre was set up in December 2007 while the second Y.E.S. located in Kwai Fong came into operation in March 2008.
