Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 17) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $51,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Two of the defendants, Profit Income Holdings Limited and Climax Paper Converters Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $42,933.75 and $2,161.48, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other defendant, 98 Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $6,153.21, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $209, $70 and $145.
