Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 11) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $16,000 on behalf of 22 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The three defendants, ABS International Logistics Limited trading as ABS Express Service Centre, Chang Won Korean Restaurant Limited and Chang Won Korean Restaurant (HK) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $8,457.50, $6,562.50 and $1,350, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $105, $145 and $85.
