Government welcomes koala gift from South Australia

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (February 10) welcomed the gift to Hong Kong of two koalas from the South Australian Government.

     The Premier of South Australia, Mr Mike Rann, made the announcement at a Chinese New Year reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Sydney) in Adelaide today.

     "I wish to express my sincere thanks to the people and Government of South Australia for presenting two koalas to us and entrusting Ocean Park to take care of these animals which are the national icon of Australia.  The gift signifies the friendship between Hong Kong and South Australia," Mr Tsang said.

     Mr Tsang said that with its extensive experience and expertise in handling both marine and land animals, Ocean Park would be able to provide a healthy habitat and suitable attention for the koalas.
