The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 22) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $130,000 against an employer in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $39,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgment against an employer, Well King Transportation Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $137,716.24, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 21 employees of the defendant.
Meanwhile, at the Tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, Panevino Limited trading as Panevino The Italian Dining Club and Wide (Hong Kong) Limited trading as Lu Yi Lu Hot Pot House, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $28,278.88 and $11,523.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The Tribunal ordered the defendants to pay $136 and 184 as the costs in respect of the claims.
