FarmFest 2010, the largest-scale local farmers' market held for the fourth consecutive year, opens at Fa Hui Park, Mong Kok, today (January 22). Over 250 stalls showcase an array of local quality agricultural and fishery products.

The three-day event is jointly organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Vegetable Marketing Organisation, Fish Marketing Organisation and Organising Committee of FarmFest 2010. The event has attracted over 100,000 visitors every year since it was first held in 2007.

Of the 250 booths, more than 150 will sell local premium produce, including fresh organic fruits and vegetables, chilled and dried seafood and ornamental plants, while about 100 booths will sell local delicacies, gourmet food, household goods as well as organic and green products. To bring vibrancy to the event, members of youth uniformed groups such as the Scout Association of Hong Kong and Hong Kong St John Ambulance will sell organic lettuce and cabbage they have grown, sharing the joy of the harvest with the public.

The exhibition zone will resemble Tai O fishing village with a running waterfall and stilt-houses as the backdrop.  A simulated green house and fish farm will also be featured to show how modern technology helps the sustainable development of the local agriculture and fishery industries. The theme produce this year is local organic tomato and premium quality grouper. Visitors can enjoy a delightful glimpse of fresh cherry tomatoes in an outdoor field and different varieties of groupers on display.

A variety of fun-filled fringe activities ranging from cultural performances and health talks to cooking demonstrations will be presented for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages.

Admission is free. There will be free shuttle bus service every 15 minutes from Shek Kip Mei MTR Station exit B1.
