The following five reports on the annual economic surveys for 2008 covering various economic sectors of Hong Kong have been published by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD):

(i) Report on 2008 Annual Survey of Industrial Production;
(ii) Report on 2008 Annual Survey of Building, Construction and Real Estate Sectors;
(iii) Report on 2008 Annual Survey of Wholesale, Retail and Import and Export Trades, Restaurants and Hotels;
(iv) Report on 2008 Annual Survey of Transport and Related Services; and
(v) Report on 2008 Annual Surveys of Storage, Communication, Banking, Financing, Insurance and Business Services.

These reports contain a wide range of statistics on the operating characteristics and cost structure of various economic sectors for 2008, including:
* number of establishments;
* number of persons engaged;
* sales of goods, business receipts and other income;
* compensation of employees;
* operating expenses;
* gross surplus;
* value added; and
* gross additions to fixed assets.

Apart from statistics relating to 2008, the reports also contain summary statistics for 2006 and 2007 to facilitate reference and comparison.
The statistics in the reports are complementary to those relatively timely but simpler statistics on the current economic situation as provided by the relevant quarterly or monthly surveys. When analysed in combination, these statistics can provide data users with a more comprehensive understanding of the latest economic situation and development of various economic sectors.
