The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, yesterday (January 8, Las Vegas time) officiated at the Hong Kong Reception organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2010 in Las Vegas. Mr Tang was accompanied by TDC Executive Director, Mr Fred Lam, and President and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, Mr Gary Shapiro.
Mr Tang was pleased to see Hong Kong's strong presence at this year's CES. "It highlights the importance of the electronics industry to Hong Kong. The industry is entering this new decade with confidence, creativity and ever increasing connectivity. The enduring success of CES shows just how important it is for industry leaders to connect with each other, share ideas and discuss the newest innovations and trends," Mr Tang said.
Mr Tang also appealed to US firms to establish a presence in Hong Kong with a view to spreading their wings into the Mainland and Asia.
Mr Tang then toured the Innovation Product Showcase, the Hong Kong Pavilion Booths and the Central Hall in the CES. While meeting with Hong Kong exhibitors participating in the show, he praised them for their perseverance during these turbulent economic times and pledged the Government¡¦s full support.
The first CES took place in 1967 and has been an annual event in Las Vegas since 1998. It is now the largest annual trade show for consumer electronics in the world and features more than 2700 exhibitors this year.
Earlier yesterday Mr Tang also had a luncheon meeting with Governor of Nevada, Mr Jim Gibbons; Mayor of Las Vegas, Mr Oscar Goodman; and local leaders from the State and city governments, business community, academia, and arts and culture sector. He updated them on the latest developments in Hong Kong and looked forward to the continued strengthening of bilateral economic and cultural ties.
