The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre will hold the "Art Specialist Course 2009-2010 Graduation Exhibition" from tomorrow (January 8) to January 18, to show works created by 36 graduating students on the course. About 100 ink-painting, Chinese calligraphy and ceramic works will be displayed.
The exhibition was opened today (January 7) by the Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums) of Leisure and Cultural Services, Dr Ng Chi-wa, and the course co-ordinators, Mr Leung Kui-ting (ink-painting), Mr Tsang Kwong-choi (Chinese calligraphy) and Ms Wan Lai-kuen (ceramics).
Organised by the Art Promotion Office (APO), the Art Specialist Course, now in its eighth series, aims to provide holistic learning and practising opportunities for art lovers who wish to consolidate their skills and develop their individual artistic direction for future pursuits.
Renowned artists Leung Kui-ting, Tsang Kwong-choi and Wan Lai-kuen were invited to be the course co-ordinators of ink-painting, Chinese calligraphy and ceramics respectively in the year. A number of workshops, visits, lectures and tutorials combined with theoretical and practical work was organised to enable students to develop their own artistic styles.
During the nine-month course, and under the professional mentorship of the three course co-ordinators, students were able to gain an in-depth understanding of the local art scene, consolidate their skills and enhance their knowledge of the visual arts for future artistic pursuits.
The 2010-2011 Art Specialist Course, which offers training in painting, printmaking and sculpture, is currently open for application and the deadline is February 26. For details, please call 2521 3008 or visit the APO website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/apo .
