The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 6) obtained an order for payment in the District Court against an employer for outstanding MPF contributions at about $128,000.
The District Court issued judgment against Yeung Ka Lai trading as Yat Sing Travel Co. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $128,145.81, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 12 employees.
The amount awarded at the District Court will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930.
