Response to consultancy study on residential care services for elderly
***********************************************************

In response to media enquiries on the Elderly Commission's Consultancy Study on Residential Care Services for the Elderly, a spokesman for the Labour and Welfare Bureau said today (January 5):

"The Government generally agrees with the overall thrust of the consultancy study.  As some of the findings and recommendations will have an impact on the current allocation mechanism for subsidised long-term care services, we have to examine the recommendations thoroughly and listen to views.  We have no definitive stance at this stage.

"In keeping with our well-established policy of 'ageing in place as the core, institutional care as backup', we will continue to allocate resources to provide care services to our elders in need."
