The Government today (December 31) announced the appointment of Mr Michael Wu, Chairman of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, as a member of the Advisory Committee on Travel Agents (ACTA) and the Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board (TICFMB).
The respective appointments are from tomorrow (January 1) to November 18, 2011 and from January 7, 2010 to October 14, 2011.
"We are grateful to the retiring member Mr Ronnie Ho Pak-ting for his valuable contribution to the work of ACTA and TICFMB over the years. We also welcome Mr Wu to the ACTA and TICFMB and look forward to working closely with him and other members in enhancing the quality of the travel trade and in providing protection to the travelling public," a government spokesman said.
ACTA is a statutory body established under section 7 of the Travel Agents Ordinance (Chapter 218). It advises the Government on matters relating to the regulation of the travel agent trade and issues affecting the interests of the travel trade and consumers.
TICFMB is a statutory body established under section 32B of the Travel Agents Ordinance. It is responsible for holding, managing and applying the Travel Industry Compensation Fund which provides ex gratia payment to outbound travellers in the event of default of travel agents or travellers who are injured or die during travel accidents while on packaged tours arranged by travel agents.
The appointment to ACTA and TICFMB is made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development under section 7(2) and section 32B(2) and 32B(3) of the ordinance, under delegated authority from the Chief Executive.
