HA announces critical case of human swine influenza

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The United Christian Hospital (UCH) spokesperson made the following announcement regarding a new case of critical human swine influenza patient today (December 25):

     A 49-year-old male patient with history of complicated diabetes mellitus and obstructive sleep apnea attended the Accident and Emergency Department of UCH on December 22 with fever, flu-like symptoms. He had severe chest infection and was admitted to the isolation ward requiring ventilation support. He was prescribed with Tamiflu and antibiotics. His condition deteriorated and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on December 23. The diagnosis of Human swine influenza was confirmed on December 24. He is now in critical condition with multi-organ failure. The hospital is closely monitoring his condition.
