******************************************

A man who had assaulted and obstructed a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) officer in execution of his duties was sentenced to one month imprisonment, suspended for one year, and fined $3,500 in Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (December 22).

The FEHD officer was attacked when he was proceeding to take out prosecution against the defendant who was found throwing a cigarette butt on the pavement of Shing Fong Street, Kwai Chung on October 7 this year.

The defendant was also fined $1,500 for littering in public place.

"Use of violence against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries legal consequences," an FEHD spokesman said.

"People should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties," he added.
