**********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival 2009 at Sha Tin Park, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza cum City Art Square.

The carnival starts at 8.30pm on December 31, 2009, and continues until 12.15am on New Year's Day. Admission is free.

There will be a variety of delightful entertainments including standard and Latin American dance, Brazilian music and dance, a marching band, percussion, pop singers, piano and saw music performances, a magic show and golden oldies. Carnival-goers may also join the challenging interactive carnival games to test their skills.

There also will be a "Support Messenger 2010" corner where members of the public can write down their New Year wishes on a message slip. These supporting messages will be displayed on a TV Wall located by the staircases of Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza from 8.30pm until 11pm. City Art Square, which showcases sculpture from around the world, will turn into a modern dance stage, adding festive atmosphere to the carnival.

The climax of the carnival is the countdown to 2010 and at midnight a pyrotechnics show from the tops of the Main Stage, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and Sha Tin Public Library will light up the sky.

The public is urged to help keep the public areas clean and to respect public property. Aerosol sprays, metallic balloons and bottles are prohibited at the venues.
