The Community Thematic Carnival Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will feature "The Colour of Islands" to be held at Square Exhibition Area, Citygate Outlets, Tung Chung (near MTR Tung Chung Station Exit B) this Sunday (December 20) from 2pm to 5pm. The carnival will feature a traditional boat people wedding demonstration, a parade of floats, musical theatre, and performances and exhibitions by district organisations and local schools.
Among the various entertainments, there will be programmes featuring the traditions of the inhabitants of different islands. Join the demonstration of the Tai O boat people's wedding ceremony to learn more about their traditions. A parade of floats, the key part of the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, will be at Tung Chung, complete with the floats and costumes. With joyful songs, dances and puppets, the musical theatre "Stories of the Water People" will tell the stories of the Tanka people.
District organisations and local schools will present performances including a marching band, dances, a lion dance, martial arts and an exhibition of photos and drawings. The carnival will have other activities such as handicraft workshops, a make-a-wish corner and a fun and games corner.
