The Hospital Authority spokesperson today (December 11) announced three new critical cases of human swine influenza (HSI):
A 54-year-old female patient with history of hypertension and hyperlipidaemia, developed flu symptoms on December 3 and attended the Accident and Emergency Department of North District Hospital (NDH) on December 10. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for treatment and was prescribed with Tamiflu and antibiotics. Positive result of HSI was confirmed on the same day. Since last night (December 10), she has become critically ill and has been put on ventilation support.
A 28-year-old woman with hypertension and obstructive sleep apnoea developed flu symptoms on December 7 and attended the Accident and Emergency Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital on December 10. She was admitted to isolation ward and was prescribed with Tamiflu and antibiotics. Positive result of HSI was confirmed on the same day. Her condition deteriorated today (December 11) and was transferred to the intensive care unit. She is now in critical condition and requires ventilation support.
A 36-year-old female patient with good past health developed with flu symptoms since December 7. She attended the Accident and Emergency Department of Tseung Kwan O Hospital on 10 December evening and was admitted to the isolation ward for treatment. Her condition deteriorated this morning (December 11) and she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. The test result for HSI was confirmed positive today. She was prescribed with Tamiflu and antibiotics. She is now in critical condition.
The three hospitals will continue to closely monitor the condition of the three patients. All the cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection.
