The following is issued on behalf of the 2009 East Asian Games (HK) Ltd:
Hong Kong's Marco Fu Ka-chun was given a lesson in ball potting by China's Yu Delu when they met in a quarter-final duel on the snooker table today (December 3).
His early encounter with Macau's Zhou Zhaoguo was different. He cruised to a 4-0 drubbing in this pre-quarter final mismatch. And he waited confidently for the afternoon encounter with Yu.
Time was not wasted as Yu crouched down and hardly looked up until he reached first frame victory. He did the same damage in the second and the third.
The Fu-Yu duel seemed to change course in the fourth frame when the Hong Kong player managed to salvage some pride.
But Yu finished the game in the next and final frame with the last three colours still on the table and Fu offering his hand to admit defeat.
Yu now progresses to tomorrow's semi-final where he will face Wu Yu-Lun of Chinese Taipei.
Fu's team-mate, Fung Kwok-wai, also had an easy early trip forward as he beat Lin Shu-Hung of Chinese Taipei 4-1, but suffered at the hands of Tian Peng Fei of China in the quarter final match. The end result was 4-0 , showing China's supremacy. Tian now faces Kim Do Hoon of Korea who barely managed to beat Si Tou Chong Wut of Macau 4-3.
It had been a busy day at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre with 10 cue sports matches being settled. Besides the two involving Hong Kong players in pre-quarter finals, there were four quarter finals in the men's 15-red snooker and four women's nine-ball pool singles quarter-finals.
In the race to seven racks, the first to book her nine-ball pool semi-final place was Japan's Chihiro Kawahara who trounced Chang Shu-Han of Chinese Taipei 7-3.
In the second showdown between Lin Yuan-Chun of Chinese Taipei and China's Chen Xue it was a close dash, but Lin was the first to reach the magic 7.
In the afternoon, Bi Zhuqing of China lost 7-4 to Korea. The final clash between Fuke Miyuki of Japan and Korea's Kim Ga Young ended in a nail-biting 7-6 finish. It went to Kim.
