The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a fun-filled carnival, EAG Cultural Extravaganza, on December 12 (Saturday) to complement the 5th East Asian Games (EAG).
Performing groups from some of the participating countries/regions will stage cultural programmes in the Cultural Extravaganza to tie in with the EAG. They include the Shaanxi Folk Arts Troupe from the Mainland, U Theatre from Taiwan, Za Ondekoza from Japan, Grupo de Dan?as e Cantares de Macau from Macao, and Inetnon Gef Pa'go from Guam. Local performing groups include Four Gig Heads Percussion Group, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra together with winners of the Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition, Hong Kong Young Talent Cantonese Opera Troupe, Jumbo Kids Theatre, Make Friends With Puppet, Ming Ri Institute for Arts Education, and cheerleading groups Splendid_T and Spry Cheer.
There will be rhythmic drum shows, folk dance and other arts programmes; local arts groups will deliver puppetry performances and Cantonese opera. In addition to the stage performances, a series of demonstrations will showcase the traditional crafts of Shaanxi Province and the food culture of East Asia. Together with fun games stalls, the carnival will offer the experience of an East Asian cultural exchange.
The EAG Cultural Extravaganza will start at 1.30pm on December 12 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Admission is free.

Other Cultural EAG attractions include "Korean Fantasy - Scent of Spring" by the National Dance Company of Korea; "Cantonese Opera Day"; opera "Poet Li Bai" by the contemporary composer Guo Wenjing; "Passion of Body Art" by local litterateur Leung Ping-kwan, dancer Mui Cheuk-yin, musician Kung Chi-sing and visual artist Leung Mee-ping; "Ki Kon Ichi Da" by Za Ondekoza (Japan) and "Sound of the Ocean" by U Theatre (Taiwan).
