The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau today (November 30) announced that the period of the public consultation on how the new Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) should operate to fulfil its mission as a public service broadcaster would be extended by one month to January 4, 2010.
"Taking into account comments we received during the past two months, we are happy to give more time for the public and concerned parties to prepare their submissions. We are keen to gather as many views as possible on the new RTHK as it moves forward into a new era of broadcasting," a spokesman for the bureau said.
The consultation document is available at the bureau website (www.cedb.gov.hk/ctb/psb). Members of the public are welcomed to give views and comments before January 4 next year by email to psb@cedb.gov.hk; by fax to 2511 1458; or by post to 2/F, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong.
The Government announced on September 22 that RTHK would be tasked to be the public service broadcaster in Hong Kong with new resources provided for service enhancement to enable it to better serve the community. A two-month public consultation on RTHK's mission as the public service broadcaster was then launched on October 5, covering areas including the public purposes of RTHK, the programming direction that it should take, the ways and means to evaluate its performance as well as to enhance its accountability.
