A wide array of cultural and arts performances was presented at the Tuen Mun Community Arts Day at Tuen Mun Cultural Square today (November 28) to celebrate the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) and enhance people's understanding and interests in cultural and arts performances.
The District Officer (Tuen Mun), Mr Eddie Cheung, Vice-Chairman of Tuen Mun District Council, Mr Leung Kin-man, Convenor of the Steering Group of East Asian Games under the Tuen Mun District Festive Activities Co-ordinating Working Group of the Tuen Mun District Council, Mr Chan Man-wah, and Chairman of Yan Oi Tong, Mrs Corona Cheuk, officiated at the event's opening ceremony.
The theme of the Hong Kong 2009 EAG is "Green, Cultural and Energetic". To echo the "Cultural EAG" theme, national cultural performances of the nine East Asian countries and areas were presented at the carnival. These were Chinese traditional "Changing Faces", Korean taekwondo, Taiwan shadow puppet movie, dance of Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japanese kendo, Guam hula dance, Mongolia¡@wrestling, Macau dragon dance and Hong Kong unicorn dance. Booths featuring handicrafts, snacks and games booths with cultural characteristics were also set up to let residents know more about the cultures and customs of participating countries and areas of EAG.
Athletes Li Fai and Hung Chung Yam were also invited to the carnival to share their experience in sports competitions and raise residents' interests in sports.
Variety shows including singing performance, Chinese percussion ensemble by primary students, interactive games, were staged to appeal for public's participation in the community cultural and arts event.
The event was organised by the Steering Group of East Asian Games under the Tuen Mun District Festive Activities Co-ordinating Working Group of the Tuen Mun District Council and Yan Oi Tong, and co-organised by the Tuen Mun District Office and Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Other officiating guests were Leisure and Cultural Services Department's District Leisure Manager (Tuen Mun), Mr Wong Kin-chung and Senior Manager (New Territories West/Cultural Services), Ms Au Wai-ying.
