The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, began his two-day visit to Hanoi in Vietnam today (November 23) to promote Hong Kong as a regional dispute resolution centre and to attend the Sixth ASEAN-China Prosecutors General Conference.
This morning, Mr Wong met the Minister of Justice of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Mr Ha Hung Cuong, and legal bodies including the Hanoi Bar Association and Vietnam Lawyers Federation. He briefed them on Hong Kong's latest rule of law situation and development in its premier legal services.
He also met senior representatives of two major foreign law firms in Vietnam to learn more about the country's needs in legal services.
Tomorrow (November 24), Mr Wong will address the Sixth ASEAN-China Prosecutors General Conference on the theme of "Strengthening Co-operation in Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters for Effectively Combating Transnational Crime". The conference is organised by the Supreme People's Prosecution Office of Vietnam.
Apart from chairing a discussion session at the conference, Mr Wong will also pay a courtesy call on the Prosecutor General of Vietnam, H.E.¡@Mr Tran Quoc Vuong.
He will return to Hong Kong on Wednesday morning (November 25).
