Human swine influenza outbreak update in male ward of Siu Lam Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement about 35 patients of three male wards in Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) confirmed with human swine influenza, SLH announced the following updates today (November 5):

     Two more patients (aged 33 and 44) in two of the concerned wards presented with flu symptoms. Viral tests were arranged for them and they were confirmed to have human swine influenza. The patients are being treated under isolation in Tuen Mun Hospital and their condition is stable.  

     Infection control measures at the hospital have been stepped up. Admission to and discharge from the hospital are suspended, while a restricted visiting policy has been implemented. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. All other patients and staff in the hospital are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
