Government's response to the press release of the Privacy Commissioner

     A Government spokesman issued the following statement today (October 21):

     Government thanks the Privacy Commissioner for his meeting with representatives from the Narcotics Division of Security Bureau, Education Bureau and Department of Justice on October 15, 2009 and his statement issued today (October 21) on the Trial Scheme on School Drug Testing in Tai Po District.  The Privacy Commissioner's valuable views and comments on the Trial Scheme are much appreciated.  They have been taken into account by Government before it released the Scheme details on October 19.

     Government is pleased to see that the Privacy Commissioner has indicated that he has no objection to the Trial Scheme.  Government has taken great care to ensure that the Trial Scheme is legally in order, and will engage the Commissioner as appropriate on issues which concern personal data privacy as it further takes the Scheme forward.
