Hong Kong Police Force Named an Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise
************************************************************

Hong Kong Police Force was among 16 Winners in the 2009 Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) study, which was also the first HKSAR Government Department to be given the Award.

Director Albert Cheuk Chun-yin of the Hong Kong Police College, received the Award on behalf of the Force during a special award presentation ceremony at the 10th World Knowledge Forum in Seoul, South Korea this evening (October 14).

The prestigious annual Asian MAKE Award recognises knowledge-driven organisations that out-perform their peers by growth in intellectual capital and shareholder value (for-profit organisations), or societal value (non-profit or public organisations).

2009 Asian MAKE Winners were chosen from among 52 nominees headquartered in Asia by a panel of Asian Fortune 500 senior executives and internationally recognised knowledge management and intellectual capital experts.

Hong Kong Police Force is specially mentioned by 2009 Asian MAKE panel for developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, welcomed the Award. He said: ˇ§In order to aspire to our collective vision of keeping Hong Kong safe and stable, we believe in maximizing the full potential of our officers through training and development.  Knowledge management is one of the principal tools which we have been using for a number of years.

ˇ§People are our greatest asset and developing our intellectual capital involves a two-prong approach: providing formal training and development; and facilitating a continuous learning culture amongst our officers.

ˇ§A continuous learning culture is what helps an organisation to move with the times. In the policing context, continuous learning helps officers to stay on top of ever-evolving changes, and the organisation to stay on top of the ever-challenging environment.  We strongly believe in the value of knowledge management in helping the organisation to grow.ˇ¨

The Award places Hong Kong Police Force amongst corporate giants such as household names in Asian carmaking, Toyota and Honda; and IT service provider, Infosys, for commitment to leveraging enterprise knowledge and intellectual capital to deliver superior products or services.

Earlier, Hong Kong Police Force has also won one of the top three places of the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2009. Presentation of the Hong Kong Award will be held on October 21, 2009.
